Letterman Should Be Fired

Imagine this:

“First Lady Michelle Obama took a second swipe at David Letterman on Wednesday, calling the CBS “Late Show” host’s jokes about one of her daughters “disgusting” and “sexually perverted.”

In an e-mailed statement, Obama said: “Laughter incited by sexually perverted comments made by a 62-year-old male celebrity aimed at a 12-year-old girl is not only disgusting, but it reminds us some Hollywood/N.Y. entertainers have a long way to go in understanding what the rest of America understands – that acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about an underage girl, who could be anyone’s daughter, contributes to the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others.”

Riffing on Obama’s trip to New York last weekend, Letterman joked Monday night that during the seventh inning of the Yankees game “her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez.”

Letterman followed up on the line Tuesday night, joking that “the toughest part of her visit was keeping [former New York Gov.] Eliot Spitzer away from her daughter.”

“I doubt he’d ever dare make such comments about anyone else’s daughter,” the first lady added in her statement.

She responded to another Letterman line during a radio interview Tuesday, calling him “pathetic” for joking that she made a stop during her trip and “bought makeup at Bloomingdale’s to update her ‘slutty flight attendant look.'”

What do you think? Awful, isn’t it? What’s wrong with a man who publicly makes sexual references about the young daughter of a public figure? He should be fired.

Surprisingly, this hasn’t gotten much media coverage. You’d think it would. But maybe it’s because of who it happened to.

You see, David Letterman did do this on network television the past two nights, but not to Michelle Obama. He did it to Sarah Palin.

  1. Iva, sorry for the confusion. Letterman did indeed say these things about Sarah Palin, not Michelle Obama.

I was trying to make the point (not clearly enough, I guess!) that if it had been Obama instead of Palin, it would have gotten FAR more attention than it did. I’m amazed at how little press coverage it did get.

    Thanks for weighing in 🙂

  2. There is such a double standard in this divided nation now. Its ok to say anything about a republican but don’t dare say anything about a liberal demorat. I will never watch CBS again and especially not Letterman or Tina Fey. I’m doing my part to boycott any network or business that has a liberal slant. We will see how long the fat cats snap to when the ratings go down the toilet. Then of course my tax dollars will be used to bail out the major TV networks!!! This is the Change we all can believe in huh.

  3. It took a few days…but NOW.org has finally come out against the Letterman “non-joke”, and has installed Letterman in it’s Media Hall of Shame. NOW also listed the address of the CEO and Chairman of CBS. You can send an e-mail from their site. I did. I wrote that Letterman should be fired. Imus was fired for less, but he had Sharpton and Jessie Jackson doing the media blitz against him. Double standards? Imus was wrong, and so is
Letterman. What is difficult to understand, is so much of the MSM making
excuses for him…even on FoxNews.com they had females who said it was OK because she had “paraded her children” in front of the media…as if it’s perfectly acceptable to joke about a child being “knocked up”. SHAME SHAME SHAME

  4. Jimmy T, it’s been like that for a long time but it’s only getting worse. I get partisanship, but I don’t get making kids a target. How anyone can find that funny is beyond me.

BARB, there must have been some pretty wild meetings at NOW to get them to finally admit that it was wrong. Better late than never, I guess. As for SHAME SHAME SHAME….absolutely!

    Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Why is everyone trying to bring Michelle Obama in this. The Obama’s have been attacked by the media ever since they started campaigning. Do we all forget about the Gorilla story in South Carolina that was referred to Michelle? Or look how many disgusting comments, cartoons and negativity that was thrown at the Obamas?

Sarah Palin have publicly disgrace herself and her family in the public eye already. Letterman is a comedian and he clearly was stating that to her 18 year old daughter. People have already made jokes towards this family, just because he is a talk show host, she wants to have the medias attention and be in the public eye. Maybe she is thinking that this will help her presidential campaign in 2012. lol.
