As a grandma who once had two wonderful grandmas of her own, I totally get how much grandmas love their grandkids and how they enjoy giving gifts to them. That said, sometimes the gifts may turn out to be a little, um, off the mark. But if making a giant doily to cover your grandkid’s spare tire doesn’t say love, what does?

Protect Your Baby Boys

Boys are more vulnerable to neuropsychiatric disorders that appear developmentally (girls more vulnerable to disorders that appear later). These include autism, early onset schizophrenia, ADHD, and conduct disorders. These have been increasing in recent decades (interestingly, as more babies have been put into daycare settings, nearly all of which provide inadequate care for babies).

Long-Distance Grandma

Until last summer, when our third grandchild was born just a few miles from our home, I had only experienced being a long-distance grandma.

This has been a very hard thing for me, but I know I’m just one of many grandmas whose grandchildren live far away.

I’m very fortunate that my son and his wife Skype with us every weekend, so we get to see our sweet grandson and granddaughter and watch them grow up that way. Thank God for Skype!

The photo above was taken when the kids came up at New Year’s. I would not normally put their faces online, but thought it was OK since they’re disguised as PJ Masks characters (as is Grandma; I think I’m “Gekko”).

They are such adorable, bright children, and I love them dearly.

Quilt for a New Grandchild

I pieced this top long almost a year before the announcement that my newest granddaughter was on the way; I saw the fabric in a catalog and had to have it, but found that I could get more of it for my money on Etsy. But the line is so muted that it doesn’t photograph very well. You can get a clearer look at the line, called Babes in Farmland by Timeless Treasures, HERE. Here’s a shot of the quilt up close:
