50 Ways to Improve Your Life in 2009

U.S. News and World Report recently came up with “50 Ways to Improve Your Life in 2009.” I don’t agree with everything they’ve put on their list, and a few of them are things I already do, such as “Put Your Cash in Safe Accounts” and “Watch TV Free Online.”

A couple of others are already long-time habits of mine, such as “Lose the Microwave Mentality” and “Air Dry Your Laundry.”

But there are just two that I would like to try this year: “Keep a ‘Clothes Hanger’ Journal” and “Get Fit as You Get Older.”

How about it? Do any of them strike a chord with you?

  1. When I read about the microwave mentality I thought they wanted us to ditch our microwave! I use ours all the time from heating up cocoa and chai lattes to softening butter for cooking. Our life would be more difficult without this wonderful invention. Then I actually clicked and figured out that they meant getting stuff faster by using credit and bad money strategies.

We do that too, so I felt relief that no one was trying to make me feel guilty for my appliances. I love listening to Dave Ramsey ’cause hearing these poor folks stories makes me so grateful for what I have in my life: no debt, 5.8 lovely children, and a husband who loves us all enough to work 12-14 hour days so we can have a roof over our heads and food on the table (not usually prepared via microwave).

  2. Kat, it got me curious, too, and I was also pleased that they were not dissing my microwave. It’s new and I love it!

I don’t listen to Dave Ramsey, but like you, I’m grateful to be debt-free with a wonderful husband and kids as well as “real” food 🙂
